Settled in 1854, Cannon Falls has a rich history in Minnesota. The entire downtown commercial district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is conveniently located between the Twin Cities and the city of Rochester while still only minutes away from MSP International Airport. With a population of just over 4,200 residents, Cannon Falls has maintained the charm of a MN small town, but with the home town hospitality that attracts many visitors throughout the year.
It’s proximity to the driftless area of Southeast MN makes Cannon Falls a gateway for many gravel enthusiasts to explore the quiet and majestic country roads and trails all through Goodhue County and beyond. After you ride your ride and you’re filled with the “spirit of gravel” be sure to check out the various dining options located right downtown. Whether it’s a restaurant, deli, brewery, or winery, Cannon Falls has something for everyone looking for those post-ride provisions we always crave.
Coolest place in Cannon Falls? Aside from the quaint downtown scene, Cannon Falls is arguably most known for being home to Pachyderm Recording Studios where post-punk rock bands like Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Soul Asylum, The Breeders, and They Might Be Giants have all recorded. If you’re paying close attention, all GDG gravel cyclists will cruise right by Pachyderm Studios as cyclists leave Cannon Falls.
